Dear Family and Friends of Santi Apostoli,
In today’s Gospel we see John the Baptist in prison and sending his disciples to ask Jesus “Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?” John the Baptist is suffering and hoping that Jesus’ message will be one of salvation. It is of salvation, but is not salvation from his imprisonment, it is salvation through his imprisonment.
Jesus is saving John the Baptist through his suffering and his patience, which James reflects on in the second reading: “Be patient, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. Think of a farmer: how patiently he waits for the precious fruit of the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the spring rains! You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon.”
This week let us ask for this gift of patience and to accept God’s pedagogy of at times saving us through suffering.
Have a great week! If you need anything, never hesitate to ask me.
God bless you and your loved ones, Fr. Kramer Cameron, LC
